Frequently Asked Questions
Are lock washers effective at preventing loosening?
Modern engineering testing shows split lock washers can actually reduce clamp load under vibration. For critical applications, use nylon insert lock nuts or thread locker (Loctite). Tooth lock washers (internal/external star) typically perform better than split washers in vibration-prone applications.
How corrosion-resistant is this stainless steel fastener?
Stainless steel fasteners resist rust and corrosion in most environments. For specific corrosion requirements, consult our engineering team or the appropriate ASTM specification.
Does Black Oxide finish provide corrosion protection?
Black Oxide provides mild corrosion resistance through a controlled oxidation process. It is dimensionally stable (no plating buildup), will not chip or flake, and is suitable for indoor use. For outdoor or wet environments, additional oil coating or a different finish (zinc, stainless) is recommended.
