Clips Type U

Clips Type U

U-clips, also called Type U nuts or speed clips, are spring-steel fasteners that slide onto a panel edge or into a hole and accept a self-tapping or machine screw. They provide a fast, tool-light threaded point for attaching trim, panels, and components without a separate nut. Common in automotive, appliances, and sheet-metal assembly, we stock U-clips in spring steel.

How U-Clips Work

The U-shaped clip pushes onto a panel edge (or into a square/round hole), gripping by spring tension. A screw driven through the aligned holes threads into the clip's formed thread or bites into it, securing a part to the panel. The clip holds itself in place before the screw is installed — speeding assembly and freeing both hands.

Why Speed Clips

U-clips eliminate the need to hold a loose nut behind a panel, align threads automatically, and install in seconds. They're ideal for attaching trim, emblems, moldings, and covers in high-volume production and for field repairs where back-side access is awkward.

Materials and Finishes

Spring steel with zinc or phosphate finish: provides the grip tension and corrosion resistance for the clip to hold and the screw to thread. The spring temper is what lets the clip snap on and stay put.

Selecting the Right U-Clip

Match the clip's panel-thickness range to your sheet, the screw size to the clip's thread, and the style (edge-push or hole-mount) to your assembly. Confirm the clip grips your panel edge firmly and that the screw and clip threads are compatible. Choose for light-to-moderate trim and panel attachment.

Use the filters to narrow by screw size and panel thickness. Orders before 2:00 PM ET ship same day.
