Bushings

87 products

Bushings are sleeve-like components used as plain bearings, spacers, or thread/size adapters. Depending on type and material, they reduce friction on a shaft, protect a bore, or adapt one size to another. They appear throughout machinery, fixtures, and assemblies. We stock sleeve, flanged, and reducing bushings across bronze, steel, and nylon.

Common Bushing Functions

Sleeve (plain bearing) bushings: a low-friction sleeve a shaft rotates in — often bronze or nylon. Flanged bushings: add a shoulder to locate the bushing and take thrust loads. Reducing bushings: adapt a larger bore or thread to a smaller one. Choose by whether you need a bearing surface, a locating shoulder, or a size adapter.

Materials

Bronze (often oil-impregnated): an excellent self-lubricating plain bearing for rotating shafts. Steel: strength for structural spacing and adapters. Nylon/plastic: quiet, non-marring, corrosion-proof, and self-lubricating for light-duty bearing and isolation. Match material to load, speed, and whether lubrication is available.

Selecting the Right Bushing

Identify the function — bearing, spacer, or adapter — then match the inside diameter to the shaft or thread, the outside diameter to the bore, and the length to your need. Choose oil-impregnated bronze for rotating bearings, nylon for light/quiet/corrosive duty, steel for structural use. Confirm fit tolerances for press or slip fit as required.
