DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) standards originated in Germany and are still widely used. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards are their international equivalents. Most are dimensionally identical and fully interchangeable.
💡 Why Do Both Standards Exist?
DIN standards were developed first (many in the 1970s-80s). When ISO created international standards, they often adopted DIN specs directly. Today, most new fastener specifications reference ISO, but DIN numbers remain common in industry because they're familiar and established. For practical purposes, DIN 912 = ISO 4762.
