Wood Screws

Wood screws are tapered, coarse-threaded fasteners designed to draw and hold in wood, with a smooth shank under the head that pulls boards tightly together. The aggressive thread bites into wood fiber for strong holding power without splitting when properly pilot-drilled. We stock wood screws in every head style, drive, and material for construction, cabinetry, and fine woodworking.
Head Styles
Flat head: countersinks flush, the standard for general woodworking. Round head: sits proud for a finished look or to fasten thin materials and hardware. Oval head: countersunk with a decorative raised top, common in hardware and trim. Bugle heads (often on deck and construction screws) self-countersink in softwood without pre-drilling.
Drive Types
Available in Phillips, slotted, square (Robertson), and combination drives. Square and Torx drives resist cam-out and allow higher driving torque, making them preferred for powered installation and dense hardwoods.
Materials and Finishes
Steel with zinc plating: economical, for interior use. Brass and bronze: decorative and corrosion-resistant for fine furniture and marine trim. 18-8 stainless: corrosion resistance for exterior and damp environments. 316 stainless: maximum resistance for coastal and treated-lumber use, where ordinary steel corrodes rapidly from ACQ chemicals.
Thread and Construction
Wood screws feature a tapered shank, coarse single-lead threads over roughly two-thirds of the length, and a smooth upper shank that lets the head draw the top board tight against the lower. The unthreaded shank is essential to clamping action—a fully threaded screw cannot pull boards together.
Selecting the Right Wood Screw
Pilot-drill hardwoods and near board edges to prevent splitting—size the pilot to the screw’s root diameter. Match material to environment: stainless for exterior and treated lumber, brass for decorative work, zinc-plated steel for interior. Select length so threads engage at least two-thirds into the receiving board, and choose square or Torx drive for powered driving in dense wood.
Use the filters to narrow by size, length, head style, drive, and material.
