Wedge Anchors

Wedge anchors are heavy-duty mechanical anchors for solid concrete, providing high, consistent holding values for structural and load-bearing attachments. As the nut is tightened, an expansion clip wedges against the hole wall, locking the anchor in place. They are the go-to anchor for racking, equipment, railings, and structural fastening to concrete. We stock wedge anchors in zinc and 316 stainless.

How Wedge Anchors Work

The anchor is driven into a drilled hole of matching diameter. Tightening the nut pulls the cone-shaped end up into the expansion clip, forcing it outward against the concrete. This wedging action creates a strong, vibration-resistant hold that increases with load. The anchor is permanent — it cannot be removed intact once set.

Critical Installation Factors

Wedge anchors require a precise hole diameter (drilled with the matching carbide bit size) and adequate embedment depth and edge distance for rated holding values. The hole must be cleaned of dust for full strength. These factors are why wedge anchors achieve high, predictable loads when installed correctly.

Materials

Zinc-plated steel: for interior and dry structural use. Hot-dip galvanized: exterior. 316 stainless: maximum corrosion resistance for outdoor, coastal, and wet environments where carbon steel would corrode and lose holding power.

Selecting the Right Wedge Anchor

Match anchor diameter and length to the load and fixture thickness, drill the exact hole size with a carbide bit, and clean the hole. Maintain minimum embedment and edge distances per the load table. Choose 316 stainless for exterior and corrosive settings. For hollow block or brick, use a different anchor type — wedge anchors require solid concrete.

Use the filters to narrow by diameter, length, and material.
