Tee Nuts

Tee nuts, or T-nuts, are press-in nuts with a flange and prongs (or threads) that embed into wood or composite, providing a strong machine-thread insert. Driven into the back of a workpiece, they let bolts attach from the front without the threads stripping out of the wood. They're standard in furniture, plywood jigs, climbing holds, and speaker cabinets. We stock prong and threaded T-nuts in steel and stainless.

How Tee Nuts Work

The T-nut's barrel is inserted into a drilled hole from the back; its flange seats flush and prongs (or external threads) bite into the wood to prevent spinning and pull-out. A bolt then threads into the barrel from the front, creating a durable, reusable machine-thread connection in a material that can't otherwise hold threads well.

Prong vs. Threaded (T-Nut Styles)

Pronged tee nuts: spikes hammer into the wood for grip — fast and economical for furniture and plywood. Threaded/screw-in tee nuts: external threads screw into the hole for a cleaner, stronger hold that won't loosen and can be installed without hammering. Choose pronged for speed, threaded for strength and a flush back.

Materials and Finishes

Steel with zinc plating: the economical standard. Stainless: corrosion resistance for outdoor or damp use. Match to the environment and load.

Selecting the Right Tee Nut

Match the thread to your bolt and the barrel length to the material thickness (it shouldn't protrude through the front). Drill the correct hole size, choose pronged for quick furniture work or threaded for maximum hold, and seat the flange flush. For repeated bolt cycles, a threaded T-nut resists loosening better.

Use the filters to narrow by thread size, length, style, and material.
