Hanger Bolts

112 products

Hanger bolts are double-ended fasteners with a wood (lag) thread on one end and a machine thread on the other. The wood end screws permanently into timber or composite, leaving a machine-threaded stud to accept a nut. They create a strong threaded mounting point in wood — for legs, feet, brackets, and equipment. We stock hanger bolts in steel and stainless.

How Hanger Bolts Work

The lag-threaded end is driven into a pilot hole in wood (there's no head — you drive it with two jammed nuts or a hanger-bolt driver), anchoring it permanently. The exposed machine-threaded end then takes a nut, washer, or threaded component. This converts a wood surface into a removable threaded stud, ideal for furniture legs, railings, and machine feet.

Installation Note

Because hanger bolts have no head, they're driven by the wood end using two jam nuts locked together on the machine end (or a dedicated driver). Drill a proper pilot hole sized to the lag thread's root to avoid splitting the wood and to get full thread bite.

Materials and Finishes

Steel with zinc plating: the economical standard. 18-8 stainless: corrosion resistance for outdoor and damp use. Match to the environment — exterior wood projects benefit from stainless.

Selecting the Right Hanger Bolt

Match the machine thread to your nut/component and the lag thread to the wood. Drill the correct pilot hole for the wood end to prevent splitting. Choose length so the lag end fully engages the wood and the machine end projects enough for the nut. Select stainless for exterior. Drive with jam nuts on the machine end.

Use the filters to narrow by size, length, and material.
