Standoffs Hex

Hex standoffs are threaded spacers with a hexagonal body used to separate and mount circuit boards, panels, and components at a fixed distance. The hex shape allows wrench tightening for secure installation. They are essential in electronics, enclosures, and panel assembly. We stock hex standoffs in male-female and female-female configurations across every common material.

Configurations

Female-female: threaded holes at both ends, joined by screws from each side — the most common for board-to-board and board-to-chassis spacing. Male-female: a threaded stud on one end and a threaded hole on the other, allowing standoffs to stack or thread directly into a panel. Choose based on how the assembly stacks.

Materials

Aluminum: lightweight and economical, the standard for electronics. Brass: excellent machinability, corrosion resistance, and electrical conductivity — common for grounding and RF work. 18-8 stainless: maximum corrosion resistance and strength. Nylon: non-conductive and non-marring, used where electrical isolation is required between board and chassis.

Why Material Matters in Electronics

Metal standoffs (aluminum, brass, stainless) conduct, providing a ground path between board and chassis — useful for grounding, problematic where isolation is needed. Nylon standoffs isolate electrically and prevent short circuits and board damage. Match the material to whether the mounting point should ground or isolate.

Choose the configuration (female-female or male-female) for your stack-up, the length for the required spacing, and the thread size to match your screws. Select material by function — nylon for isolation, brass or aluminum for grounding and general use, stainless for strength and corrosion resistance.
